Beginning is always the hardest

This post is composed of 326 words and with an average reading speed this should correspond to less than 2 minutes of your time. So please, either read through it whole, or just skip it entirely and save yourself some time.

I'm a writer. I know that because I live my life like a story.

Problem is, I'm too cynical about my ability to write. Want proof? On the 20th of January I saw a writing competition on Reddit and wanted to write a Novella between 7500 and 17500 words. It just so happens that on the 15th of January I had a good idea for a story and started writing it. What a great coincidence, right?

Long story short, in 16 days I managed to write 1688 words, or 105.5 words per day if you prefer. That's nothing, considering how much we type these days - writing programs, command line operations, emails, facebook, you name it...

So, I would greatly appreciate feedback. Especially critique. Because this way I'll either end up writing a good novella - and submit it to the competition - or discard it and start another. Starting anew is not a problem. Currently I have at least 20 of ideas started either in my notes, or on laptop. But I didn't develop them properly, because of my aforementioned cynicism. Thanks society, I really appreciate that.

What's in it for you?

Well, good books are always a great pleasure to read, right? That's what I'm planning to do and it's up to you to decide if you believe me and want to help me out or not.

p.s. the title of this post is the English translation of the name of the 2nd chapter of a book I started to write at the age of 13 or 14 (originally it was in Slovenian language, didn't know English yet). That was 11 or 12 years ago and I still haven't finished a single book.
